As president Trump leaves the seat of power, UK Jazz & Soul artist Samantha Lindo releases new track ‘Lights Go Out’ about the crumbling of white supremacy,
Samantha wrote the track back in 2020 on Black Out Tuesday, a music industry action organised in response to the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.
The song says that we need to be doing more than posting black squares to show our commitment to racial equality.
It insists that achieving racial justice involves those who benefit from a system that was built on white supremacy, to start to recognise and ultimately relinquish that privilege.
With flavours of afro-beat, soul, gospel and RnB, the song is upbeat, fun and hopeful but also speaks the truth.
