Recorded in 2010 Josh Lee traces the use of variation (aka Division) in the virtuosic music for bass viol. Starting in 16th century Spain and Italy, with a stop in 17th century England before finishing up in 18th century France, the art of taking pre-existing music and repurposing or re-imagining it has been with us for ages. Joined by John Lenti and David Walker on lutes, theorbos, and guitar, this collection represents some of his most cherished works.
