Sika grew up in Lomé, Togo, and first studied economics. It was during her job in a trading company that she began to question her happiness. In her search, she discovered a music inside of her that arose with such a clarity that she could not ignore it. She then starts learning the double bass and writing her own music. She performs in the combination of her voice and the double bass. Her first album “nubu”, recorded together with drummer Flo Hufschmid and pianist Gianni Guida, are compositions reflecting the musical influences of her home country, through its rhythmical richness. This results in bass lines originating from an internal dance, a body impulse. The odd meters are felt in a way that creates a sophisticated, but natural music.
