Unaccompanied: Volume Two is a collection of French and German works for solo bass viola da gamba drawn from an anonymous Northeastern German manuscript dating from 1674. It was performed, recorded, edited and produced by viol virtuoso Josh Lee, as a study of the performance practices at the dawn of the virtuosic viol repertoire in Germany and France. “We tend to look back at history as nice and neat, but the royal courts of Europe were places of wild cultural cross pollination,” says Lee.
