‘2’ is the second release from the British duo, and their first on eclectic Milan-based progressive label Luminol Records. In keeping with the theme of their first EP – ‘17’ – the title comes from the street address of the Berlin house where it was made.
The full version of ‘2’ – due for release early 2020 – is a 22-minute electronic composition in five movements, taking in drone, techno, noise and ambient. Its grand sweep recalls classic sci-fi epics like 2001: A Space Odyssey – the opening minutes a near-homage to the Kubrick’s monolith – and the best of Carpenter’s soundtracks, peppered with four-to-the-floor kicks, woozy Boards of Canada beats and cathartic distortion.
