The name of Frederic Septimus Kelly, the almost-forgotten Australian/British composer (and, incidentally, Olympic rowing champion) who died in the Battle of the Somme, deserves wider recognition. Kaja, Diede & Wouter first discovered Kelly’s music while playing his Elegy in Memoriam Rupert Brooke together in another ensemble, the St. George Quintet. Impressed by the scope of the work as well as its wide spectrum of emotions, they agreed to make the world premiere recording of the Trio. The project is generously supported by the Belgian cultural organisation Beeldenstorm, by the Australian association the Flowers of War, dedicated to promoting Kelly’s music as well as F. S. Kelly's family.
