A woman proud of her motherland, Binta’s ancestry defines her sweet spirit and nurtures the voice cultivated from within. A peaceful 2nd soprano sound, she sings relaxed melodies of reflective adventures and honeyed pastimes. Chicago born, first-generation of Senegalese and Gambian descent, Binta’s inspirations include Lauryn Hill, India.Arie, J. Cole and Youssou N'Dour. Binta will make her proper debut with her upcoming Album, Rooted (2020), a hybrid of Neo-soul and Senegalese pop music. Rooted is a homage return trip in December to her ancestral homeland of Senegal and Gambia after a 15-year hiatus. Binta was inspired to pursue a singing career after attending the Inner-City Muslim Action Network’s Artist Retreat in October of 2018.
